More Leisure Time in America
Americans are among the most productive workforce on Earth, using technology, manufacturing innovations, and increased prominence of the information and service sectors to create not only unprecedented stability but also GNP expansion.

Despite these accomplishments the American worker is overworked in terms of hours worked per week, overtime, and time off from work. Despite the advances due to labor-saving technologies, Americans have not gained additional free time.

1. More than half report that they didn't have time to take a vacation
2. 42% of travelers who go away for just a weekend are aged 18 to 34
3. Half of all Americans own a cell phone, more than 46% take their phones with them when they go on vacation
4. More than 18% take their pagers when they go on vacation
5. 6% take their laptops when they go on vacation
6. 10% check e-mail on vacation
7. 40% of men work more than 40 hours a week, an increase of 5% in the last two decades
8. 22% of women worked more than 40 hours a week, an increase of 8% in the last two decades
9. More than 40% of American workers say they come home from work exhausted 10. Young married couples work an average 26% more hours each year than they did 30 years ago.
11. Nearly 70% of adults aged 35 and younger are "somewhat" to "extremely" stressed
12. More than 33% of adults under the age of 25 say they don't get enough sleep most or all of the time.


Our Policy Priorities

1. Creation of a federal Monday holiday in April

3. Eliminate popular usage of the expression "24/7"
4. Reduction of the standard work week-- 35 hours immediately, 30 hours by 2010. 5. Federal legislation to mandate increased annual paid vacation for all American workers-- four weeks by 2005, six weeks by 2010
6. Elimination of "night shifts" for nonessential services that also have day shifts.
